This is an introductory course designed to provide you with a comprehensive knowledge of the basics of writing HTML.
who's it for
The course is aimed at those who:
- Would like to learn how to build and publish web-sites without the need of specialist software.
- Who are familiar with WYSIWYG web site authoring programmes, such as Dreamweaver and Frontpage, but would like to understand HTML code.
what I will learn
You will gain a solid foundation in HTML so that you will be able to:
- Create your own websites by using simple and easily accessible tools such as Notepad (PC) or TextEdit (Mac OS).
- Understand how to trouble-shoot whilst using a WYSISWG HTML editor such as Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe PageMill or Macromedia Dreamweaver.

- What a browser is and what it does.
- What web terminologies stand for, e.g. HTML, CSS and HTTP.
- The elements of HTML.
- How to create a web page using HTML tags to define the page and format text.
structuring and linking
- How to enhance elements by the use of attributes.
- How to create HTML elements such as lists.
- The importance of planning the structure of a website.
- The importance of organising your documents.
- How to use the anchor tag and create links between pages.
making tables and adding media
- How to create tables.
- How to use the colspan and rowspan attributes.
- How to add images and sound to your web pages.
- Understanding different media file types.
- The importance of optimisation for the web.
Adding styles to your website
- What is CSS?
- How to incorporate style elements within your pages and site.
