The aim of the course is to provide learners with a solid introduction to the web publishing package Macromedia Dreamweaver. Delivered through demonstration, as well as through a series of guided practical exercises using the package, learners will be able to design, build, update and publish a multi-page, static website whilst developing good web design principles.

The course will cover the following:
  • Basics of publishing for the web: An overview of the WWW and its relationship with HTML and various browsers.
  • Defining a site: How to define a site in Dreamweaver and understand the importance of site and file management when developing a website. Setting up the structure of the site.
  • Importing graphics: How to import graphics into a web page and understand the nature of different file types.
  • Tables: How to build and edit tables within Dreamweaver and how to use them to format text and graphics.
  • Hyperlinks: Different ways of using hyperlinks within a website. How to create internal and external links, e-mail links, image maps, images as links and jump menus.
  • Browser Testing: How to use Dreamweaver to test web pages for compatibility issues within different browsers.
  • Layers: How to use and create layers within Dreamweaver. The pros and cons of using layers.
  • Cascading Style Sheets: Introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). How to format elements within a site using CSS. Creating and linking to an external style sheet.
  • Buttons, behaviours and rollovers: The basics of behaviours. How to produce buttons and rollovers within Dreamweaver.
  • Search engine optimisation: How to optimise websites for search engines and the web.
  • Publishing and hosting: Publishing and managing websites using Dreamweaver. Choosing and purchasing domain names.
