digital video for artists
course description
This course is aimed at practicing artists and designers who want to explore the possibilities of using video to extend or promote their practice. It will focus on techniques for the creation of a video sequence and will look at how these skills can be applied to the purposes of making a piece of video art, a video installation, documenting your practice, and producing a DVD portfolio. Cameras and computer hardware/software will also be explored.
who’s it for
Experience of using computers for basic tasks, such as word processing and opening and saving documents, is essential. Experience of using image editing applications, such as Paintshop Pro or Photoshop, would be useful, but is not a requirement.
what I will learn
The course will enable you to:
- Gain a basic understanding of the use of digital video cameras and digital sound recording equipment.
- Gain a basic understanding of available digital video editing applications.
- Gain the ability to use digital video technologies for the purposes of extending or promoting your artistic practice.

- Introduction to cameras, basic terminology and 'capturing'.
- Editing and Effects.
- Sound.
- Output and display/distribution.
- Creating a DVD portfolio.

15 hours over five Wednesday evenings.
